Most listings you will find for “winery for sale Spain” are real-estate agencies selling land with vines and a house. The wineries in this portfolio are operating companies: an established brand inside a designation of origin, active distribution, cellar and production equipment, staff, and accounts you can audit. You buy the business; the vineyard comes with it.

What a Spanish winery is worth

Appellation wineries trade at roughly seven to ten times normalised EBITDA. Brand and export weight matter most: a bottled wine with its own label and distribution in two or three markets is worth several multiples more than the same volume sold in bulk. Membership of a qualified designation (DOQ Priorat, DOCa Rioja) adds a premium that survives ownership changes because it belongs to the estate, not to the owner. Owned vineyards and the stock ageing in the cellar are appraised separately and added to the operating value.

What we verify before publishing

Vineyard registry and planting rights, appellation membership and its remaining term, ownership of the brand and its registrations, stock by vintage with an independent count, distribution and importer contracts, and the condition of press, tanks, barrels and bottling line. The full report is delivered with the memorandum.

Who buys

Spanish and international wine groups adding an appellation to their portfolio, US and Northern European importers moving upstream into production, family offices looking for land with a brand on top, and private wine investors. Each profile pays for something different; the four are described in who buys food companies in Spain.

Access

Every winery in this portfolio is between one and one and a half hours from Barcelona airport, which makes a same-day visit possible from most European cities.

Frequently asked

How much does a winery in Spain cost?
An appellation winery with its own brand sells for 6.0 to 8.5 times normalised EBITDA, plus owned vineyards and stock at appraised value. In this portfolio, from €4M (DOQ Priorat estate with vineyards) to €30M (cava house with a retail distribution contract).
Do I buy the land or the company?
The company. You acquire the shares, with the brand, contracts, staff and property. The vineyards and cellar come with it, and the appellation stays attached to the winery after the change of ownership.
Can a foreign buyer purchase a Spanish winery?
Yes. EU and non-EU buyers can acquire a Spanish winery company through the purchase of its shares. Non-EU investors taking 10% or more should check Spain’s foreign investment screening, which covers food security; it is reviewed before signing. Process, tax and timing are in the guide to buying a company in Spain.
